Chinese Opera

Chinese theatrical act characterised by extravagant costumes, make-up and live music.

Traditional Chinese opera is a theatrical musical form originating from Ancient China. Chinese opera is characterised by it's live music, martial-arts, dance, acrobatics and singing. The theatrical performances tell stories which are expressed through the garnments and makeup. Each color of makeup has a differant meaning to it and symbolises the rol of the character played and their emotional state.

Characteristics

  • Traditional live music is performed with instruments such as the Yangqin, Jinghu, Bo, Gong and Yueqin.
  • The show can last up to 5 hours, devided over 10 differant performance pieces throughout a day.
  • Chinese Opera is performed by a group of 8 to 10 performers.
